Racing in 2023

Road Racing is making a comeback in 2023

The focus of the Murwillumbah Cycle Club for many years has been road racing conducted from Pat Smith Park and other locations such as Mooball and Tyalgum.

Subject to Police and Tweed Shire Council approvals, the 2023 road racing season will commence in March and finish in November.

The 2022 impact of the significant rain events and flooding on the roads previously used for racing has meant that a revised set of courses will be used in the first half of the 2023 season.

2023 road racing courses using Pat Smith Park (Dulguigan, McAulays, Hoop Pine and Urliup Roads, Boyds Lane), Travis Campbell Park (Tyalgum Road) and Mooball are planned and have been submitted to Tweed Shire Council and Tweed Police for approval.

Entry Boss will be used to streamline the registration process and the first races for 2023 are expected on the Entry Boss site in late February.

During the season the club will continue to monitor Tweed Shire Council’s updates on road network repairs and when possible, other courses will be assessed by the club for safety and road race suitability,  The club will submit safe and suitable courses to Council for approval.

As a result of the significant rain events, extensive damage to the Tyalgum Cup course in the Limpinwood area and elsewhere has occurred.  Tweed Shire Council’s advice is that the road may not be available to commuters until December 2023.  In the circumstances it will not be possible to host the Tyalgum Cup in 2023.  At present, commuters in the Tyalgum area are required to use Numinbah Road until impacted roads are re-instated. Traffic volumes on Numinbah Road have increased markedly and road racing on Numinbah Road during the season may not be possible.
